A lecture by Tarek Osman
Tarek Osman is an author, essayist, and broadcaster focused on the Arab and Islamic worlds. He is the author of “Islamism” (2016) and the international bestseller “Egypt on the Brink” (2010). Tarek wrote and presented several BBC documentary series on the Middle East and is a regular contributor on the Arab and Islamic world for leading newspapers and magazines worldwide. He has 18-years experience researching Arab history and societies.
Tarek is the senior political counsellor for the Arab world at the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD). He advises the Board of Directors (representing over 65-countries) and senior management on the region’s geo-politics and political-economy, and on the dynamics and challenges of political and economic reform.

Prof. Dr. Luk Van Langenhove is Academic Director of the Institute for European Studies at the VUB, and Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences. His previous positions include being Director at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies, Representative of the UNU Rector at UNESCO, Deputy Secretary-General of the Belgian Federal Ministry of Science Policy, Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Belgian Federal Minister of Science Policy, and Vice-President of the International Social Sciences Council.
